These wasps fly 25 MPH so don’t go outside anymore

From Wired:

The city of Ankang, in Shaanxi, China, has a 3,000-year history and a name that means “having abundant harvest and happy forever, being peaceful and healthy.” No mention of giant killer hornets. That might change soon, as the city is at the center of a recent rash of hornet attacks that have left 19 dead since July. These are not run-of-the-mill wasps, but Vespa mandarinia: two-inch-long bugs that can fly up to 25 mph and pack 1/4-inch-long stingers that deliver potent doses of the neurotoxin mandaratoxin. Maybe stick to Beijing until this clears up.

Too bad we can’t stay, baby.
