Potential for racism at the 2012 Euro Cup in Ukraine and Poland

The 2012 Eurocup is coming up in a bit, and the hosts this year are Ukraine and Poland. The hardcore supporters of some of the teams in Poland and Ukraine have been known to use racist and anti-semitic chants and imagery, and there is some concern that non-white fans of teams participating in the Euro Cup could be targeted for violence. Chris Rogers of BBC Panorama went to watch some games in Ukraine and Poland and saw some pretty shocking things from the fans. I don’t usually watch videos longer than 5 minutes (who am I kidding, 1 minute) on Youtube, but I watched all 28 minutes of this.

Oh, jeez, please, no! There is a problem with racism among hardocore football supporters in Poland and probably to a bigger extend in Ukraine, but those idiots are in minority and surely won’t affect the tournament (if only due to the ticket distribution system in place).
This program is pure sensationalism, not a proper reporting job. BBC had an interview with police, where it was said that racial based crimes are not really a problem in Poland, or with an Isreali player playing for a team in Poland, in which he stated that he never had any problems either – both interviews were not used.
Again, I’m not saying there is no problem and that there should be nothing done about it, but this document is a poor piece of journalism that only spreads false image of reality.

THERE USED TO BE AND THERE PROBABLY STILL IS A LOT OF HOOLIGANISM IN POLAND BUT RACISM
IS A COMMODITY INVENTED BY COLONIAL POWERS WHO WENT AS FAR AS NOT ONLY TO ENSLAVE THE CONQUERED POPULATION BUT EVEN TO CREATE CONCENTRATION CAMPS – FOR EXAMPLE THOSE IN THE BRITISH COLONY OF KENYA IN 1940-S

I DOUBT THAT ANY OF THOSE HOOLIGANS ACTUALLY BELIEVES THAT HE BELONGS TO A SUPER RACE. THERE IS USUALLY NO NEED FOR AN IDEOLOGICAL JUSTIFICATION TO BEAT SOMEONE. THE IDEA OF SUPERIORITY OF ONE RACE OVER ANOTHER WAS ALWAYS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED, AS OUR BBC FRIEND MOST LIKELY KNOW.

Yes there is racism in Poland and Ukraine. There are idiots like this in every country. How sick, hyprocritcal, and disengenuous can the BBC and British mass media be to focus on this in Poland and Ukraine, and to imply that these countries have more of a problem than others when considering the racist history of England and other Western countries. 99%+ of Polish and Ukrainian citizens are wonderful and very hospitable people who welcome everyone to the games, which is why they are turning out so well with so little trouble or violence. And of the few negative occurances that have taken place we know that at least some were committed by visitors to the games from other countries. Shame on the BBC and its followers who continue to paint these fabulous countries based on the actions of small minority. Is that not as bad as racism itself?
