I don’t think anyone really gives a shit about the deficit, what people care about is whether they have a job. In any case, check out the NY Times Budget Puzzle. It was easy to solve the deficit and create a surplus by raising taxes and reducing spending. PS 30 year budget projections are a joke and a waste of time.
Seriously, even though our spending-cut/tax-cut percentages were flip-flopped, modest changes balance the budget, and anything more than modest starts to create generous surpluses.
I wonder if this this graph factors in surpluses paying down the deficit, and thereby lowering interest payments in future years? I doubt it. That would increase the surplus even more.
Why not have a national referendum to reduce the deficit and have this chart be the ballot?
